High-Performance Computing

As a provider for high-performance computing, SCART operates a Linux-cluster of 1536 cores and 6 TByte RAM in order to solve research problems of both industrial partners as well as research institutions on a nation-wide level. Simulation projects can be booked on a  contractual basis.

Numerical Methods

Several numerical methods for Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations, Detached-Eddy Simulations (DES), Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) and Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) are available on the SCART cluster.

Test Facilities

Various test facilities such as the Tunnel Simulation Facility (TSG), the Sidewind Facility (SWG), the Do728 Cabin Test Facility (Do728) and the Water-Towing Tank Facility (WSG) are operated. Additionally, sophisticated measurement techniques such as Hotwire Anemometry (HWA), Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA), Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA) and various types of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) are available. Validation experiments and measurement campaigns can be booked on a contractual basis.

Validation Data Base

A validation data base containing selected results of experiments, Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and highly resolved Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) will soon be provided for validation purposes.

Doctoral and Student Program

Doctoral studies and internships are offered for outstanding students who wish to carry out advanced research in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. The program is designed to provide stipends to doctoral, master and bachelor students who are motivated to address fundamental and applied flow problems of interest for the transportation industry.
